Chelemhá
Satellite photo of the Yalijux mountain range from 2000. Dark green areas are primary forest, paler areas are agricultural land and secondary shrub. Actual area of the Chelemhá cloud forest reserve (red frame), and recently purchased land (blue frame). Other protected areas (yellow frame). Satellite photo from Markussen (2003).

In order to avoid fragmentation between two protected areas (see graphic), the Chelemhá cloud forest reserve was expanded over 172 ha, including 100 ha of primary cloud forest.

The owner is the conservationist NGO UPROBON. This organization administrates the protected area and coordinates conservation activities in Chelemhá.

UPROBON needs still US$ 12,630 for the land purchase.

Help to save the habitat of the Quetzal! With a donation you can support the conservation of this valuable reserve. With only US$50 you support the purchase of 2,800 sqm of cloud forest.
